Project Overview
The HALO Maritime Defense System installation at Hamad Port Naval Zone in Qatar represents a high-security marine infrastructure project designed to protect critical naval assets. The project covered full offshore deployment, installation, alignment, and commissioning of an advanced floating maritime security barrier and access control gate system.
Project Location
Hamad Port Naval Zone – Qatar
Scope of Work
The scope of work included the following key activities:
- Deployment of pre-cast concrete anchor blocks at approved GPS coordinates
- Installation and alignment of warning and navigational marker buoys
- Installation of the HALO floating maritime security barrier
- Installation and commissioning of the retractable HALO security gate
- Tensioning, alignment, and functional testing of the complete system
- Final inspection and handover to the client
Mobilization & Preparation
- Mobilization of marine crew, divers, lifting team, and safety officers
- Transportation of anchor blocks, buoys, chains, shackles, and barrier units to the naval staging area
- Pre-installation HSE induction and toolbox talks
- Weather and tidal condition verification prior to offshore operations
Concrete Anchor Blocks Deployment
Equipment Used
- Marine crane barge
- Support vessels
- Certified lifting slings and shackles
- Professional diving team
Installation Procedure
- Anchor blocks were lifted using a marine crane and transported to pre-approved GPS positions
- Divers confirmed seabed conditions and alignment
- Blocks were lowered under diver supervision
- Final positioning was verified using DGPS and diver inspection
- Underwater chain connections were secured and inspected
Outcome
All anchor blocks were installed within ±0.5m positional tolerance and designed to withstand environmental and operational loads.
Warning Buoys Installation
- Assembly of buoys with mooring chains and swivels
- Deployment to designated positions
- Diver-assisted underwater chain connections
- Tension adjustment for correct freeboard and visibility
- Inspection of reflective markings and navigation lights
Result:
A complete and clearly visible perimeter was established to ensure navigational safety.
HALO Floating Barrier Installation
- Barrier modules transported by barge and connected section-by-section
- Underwater chain connections installed by divers
- Continuous alignment and tension control
- Buoyancy, coupling, and stability inspections
Retractable Security Gate Installation
Installation & Commissioning
- Positioning and alignment of the gate frame using a crane barge
- Mechanical and structural fixation
- Electrical and control system integration
- Functional testing under operational load
Commissioning Tests
- Remote operation test
- Emergency stop functionality
- Manual override verification
- Sensor and limit switch calibration
Final Inspection & Handover
- Joint inspection with client’s engineering and security teams
- Verification of alignment, tension, and system functionality
- Submission of as-built drawings and maintenance documentation
- Formal handover and system acceptance
Project Outcome
The HALO Maritime Defense System installation was completed successfully, safely, and in full compliance with engineering specifications and security standards. The system is fully operational and provides high-level maritime protection and controlled access for the naval facility.
