PS-16N Connection to IDRIS Tunnel – Surface & Ground Water Network Intervention

Qatar South Catchment Zone Framework – Old Airport Area, Qatar

Project Summary

This project was executed under the Qatar South Catchment Zone Framework to restore and improve flow within a live foul sewer network by establishing a direct connection between PS-16N and the IDRIS Tunnel. The scope focused on the controlled removal of multiple reinforced concrete wall plugs obstructing the network, allowing safe diversion of flow toward the IDRIS system.

All works were carried out within live network conditions and under strict safety, quality, and authority requirements.

Scope of Work

  • Removal of reinforced concrete wall plugs from multiple shafts within the PS-16N network
  • Preparation and execution of confined-space entry works
  • Flow diversion and continuous level monitoring during live network operations
  • Mechanical and civil removal works using approved methods and equipment
  • Restoration of network continuity toward the IDRIS Tunnel
  • Site reinstatement and final inspection

Execution Highlights

  • Operations conducted within an active foul sewer network
  • Removal of high-thickness reinforced concrete obstructions
  • Continuous flow control and monitoring throughout execution
  • Use of certified lifting equipment, access systems, and safety gear
  • Full compliance with approved method statements and QHSE standards

Testing & Verification

  • Visual and functional verification of clear flow paths
  • Confirmation of uninterrupted diversion toward the IDRIS Tunnel
  • Final inspection completed in coordination with relevant stakeholders

Project Outcome

The intervention works were completed safely and efficiently, successfully restoring flow from PS-16N into the IDRIS Tunnel.
The network is now fully operational, ensuring improved hydraulic performance and long-term reliability within the surface and ground water sewer system.
